Revealed – Why Traditional Diets Fail

by Aiden Zamora on September 5, 2008

If you’re anything like me, you’ve no doubt tried pretty much every diet out there but with little or no success. What is it with diets that simply don’t work? It’s incredible how many people still teach the myth that eating tiny amounts of food will result in weight loss. The truth is that when we restrict our food intake we could actually gain weight instead of losing it. Your body is designed to regard reduced food consumption with starvation. When we intentionally deprive our bodies of food we trigger our body’s starvation preservation mode.

To help maintain a healthy weight we need to eat a diet that are made up from plenty of complex carbohydrates (such as vegetables, cereals etc) and people who are overweight usually have diets that have a lot more fat and simple carbs. Understanding what studies tell us about what contributes to weight loss is important when designing a weight loss plan. One of the best ways to lose weight is to observe a low carb diet where you are careful about how many carbs you take in every day, but don’t worry too much about the other foods. Don’t see this as an excuse to overeat, as you still need to watch quantities, by carefully managiing your portion sizes, and ensuring you get a good balance of healthy nutritious foods which should also be low in saturated fats.

Chances are there are habits that contributed to the weight gain and the weight gradually crept up over time rather than overnight. As the weight gain didn’t happen overnight, getting back to your normal weight won’t happen in an instant. People who haven’t figured out the balance between eating the right foods, getting lots of water, physical exercises and making sure they get enough sleep are easy prey to those pushing the current fad diet, diet pill or quick weight loss program. You don’t need to look far to find the latest fad diet or weight loss program. As we live in a world where we want everything now, it is easier to believe that there is a magic pill, drink, or program that can take the excess weight off quickly, than to accept that we have power to re-structure our lives and have a much better life where being overweight and unhealthy is the thing of the past.

Most diets fail because they do not teach a balance within your body. Diets fail because they are designed towards making someone or some company money instead of producing a diet product or system that will truly aid a person to lose weight.

Everybody is telling us that those who are obese are more likely to succumb to illnesses and other serious health problems as a result of excessive body weight. Too much fat in your diet is one of the main contributors to unnecessary body fat.

For too many years people have been instructed that they need to deprive themselves of food or count every calorie they consume before they can shed those excess pounds. In reality our bodies are more than able to manage weight if we give our bodies what is needed it needs to stay healthy – like making sure you get plenty of rest, plenty of water, eat healthy and nutritious foods, and daily physical activity.

Losing weight is not just about counting calories, you also need to avoid eating in excess. Moderate portions of wholesome foods are crucial to losing weight. Another vital aspect to weight loss is to make sure you get plenty of exercise. Our bodies respond well to physical exertion!

Any ideas?
