my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer…. she’ll be starting chemo soon… can anyone give me specific foods to help her through this?? please give me specific answers. the bigger list the better, thanks sooo much
It would make sense to eat healthy foods (even high cal) to build herself up, but honestly my advice is just for her to eat what she wants, and craves.
During chemo it's really more of the same. She'll know what she can and can't handle. I'd advise against NOT eating favourite foods though as she might not ever want them again!
Best of luck to you both.

Had a round of chemo over easter once, now the smell of chocolate makes me feel ill
she should try to eat as healthy as she can. Wait until she has the chemo to figure this out. It depends on what she will be able to keep down. The chemo is likely to make her very sick and a lot of food won’t agree with her. Good luck. I hope she’ll be okay.

yes she needs to build up a bit because chemo makes you not want to eat, the first 2 weeks i was on chemo because of the steroids they were giving me i could not stop eating.and then one day i woke up and had absolutey no desire to eat at all,so they sent the dietician to see me who put me on high protein shakes.try getting mum to eat stodgy puddings plenty of meat and fish, blueberries and pine nuts are good for the blood plenty of fruit and green vegetables and the odd glass of red wine will be good for her.i wish your mum all the best wishes in her fight.

Any so called super food does just a good of job at keeping the cancer alive and well fed as a normal cell. Avoid predators making fantastic promises about foods that will heal cancer. Have your mother eat a good balanced diet of fruits, veggies and grains and whatever else she enjoys that will maintain her normal weight. That is the best diet for your mom.
All supplements should be cleared with her Dr before taking anything while doing chemo because normally all antioxidants are stopped until after you are sure the cancer is dead or in remission. Ask your oncologist for specific advice.
good luck
