A mechanic is attempting to repair a high compression pump but is having difficulty in freeing the pump housing bolts using only a small pipe wrench. How would using a 1.5 meter length of pipe in conjunction with the wrench help to free the bolts?
Slide if over the handle. The added length gives extra leverage.

He is increasing the lever arm, thus increasing the torque applied to the bolt.

we call that at work "using a snipe". it in essence makes the wrench handle longer giving you more leverage. the only thing would be that he risks breaking the bolt off.

it would greatly decrease the amount of force taken to loosen the bolts .. something with the angle or acting as a lever ..

It gives the mechanic more Leverage to loosen the siezed up bolt.

The extra length from the pipe would give more leverage and, as a result, more force to help remove the bolts.

By increasing leverage and thereby torque.
Its a classic 'Cheater Bar'.

It's called leverage, read on any physics book and it'll get you busy. It's very interesting actually.

When you pick up the end of a board, the torque required will be equal to the product of the force that you apply F1 times the distance to the center of rotation L1 which in this case is the other end of the board. If a crate is sitting on the board, the torque exerted by the crate will be equal to the product of the crate's weight F2 and its distance from the center of rotation L2. These two torques must be equal in order for you lift the end of the board. Mathematically this turns out as
F1*L1=F2*L2
If you solve for F1 you will find out how much force F1 that you will need to apply to the end of the board which will be less than the actual weight F2 of the crate. For example assume the crate weighs 210 lb and is located 2 ft from the end of the board. Meanwhile you lift the other end of the board which is 6 ft long. You will then have to exert F1 = F2*L2/L1 = 210lb*2ft/6ft = 70lb.
use penetration oil on bolt and a pipe wider than a socket wrench – slide it over the handle – and you are ready

yes, this shows your genius mind. just be sure thw rachet or wrench has a very good grip on the head or it will round off the head, or snap the bolt.
i use a large vise-grip type pliers and a 30 inch (70cm) sturdy pipe. this enables me to get a very good grip on the bolt head.

By using a pipe on the end of a wrench will you more leverage, therefore making it easier to loosen the bolt.

Marriage is too often an empty symbol while faithfulness can be measured with great ease in the physical universe. (It is not always "caught" but it is, even so, a physical universe event that is not subject to maybe.)
Marriage is a mental and spiritual symbol. Faithfulness is a physical fact. The moral code promoted on these pages is based on physical universe activity, not on religious or arbitrary rules. The man or woman who is sexually faithful will live longer — will survive better. That is the underlying fundamental principle of this moral code — maximize survival, to be measure in physical universe terms.

Strangely enough, mental and spiritual happiness will come along too, when a couple is sexually faithful.
The use of the 1.5 meter length of pipe as an eatention to the length of the handle is what we call in our bussness (using a cheater bar)
it adds more foot pounds of torque to the pressure applyed to the wrench an gives more leverage to loosen the bolts.

Experence tought me from previous tech's and applied reasoning. Also hands on effort.
All of the above correct BUT……………………….Make sure that the wrench or socket fits the nut PERFECTLY – With all that extra torque, it is really easy to damage the nut so it never comes off. Even with a perfect fit, you can still shear the head of the bolt right off. So you need to be careful, also, a few squirts of WD40 in there overnight may make things go a little more smoothly the next day.
If it still does not budge, get a blowlamp on it as the heat will ease it (unless it is a petrol pump!! be careful)
Good luck.
