Recent studies have shown that more people are becoming overweight every year; there are now large numbers of children just starting school that have a weight problem. For some, the decision is simple and they just write out a check for the surgery but others prefer the harder approach of actually getting fit and controlling their diet. Of course if you are really in a hurry then you can always use weight loss medication to speed the process up.
These drugs usually work buy telling the brain it’s no longer hungry, stimulating metabolism to aid the shedding of excess fat. These drugs were quickly removed from circulation when tests revealed that one of the more dangerous side effects was an increased risk of heart valve disease. Newer drugs were developed and started to be prescribed by physicians and dieticians, some of these drugs are currently waiting for the Federal Drug Administration go ahead.
You may in fact know someone who has used these pills at some time and has first hand experience of how effective they can be. This is obviously a very tempting prospect, to lose weight whilst eating the same diet. As a consequence, drug companies spend millions of dollars in research on weight loss drugs while consumers spend even more buying the pills.
The more recent weight control pills can be prescribed by your doctor, dietitian or purchased in a drug store and despite the advances made in the drug manufacture, there are still dangers including vomiting and stomach problems. You must check the packet carefully before you decide to use them because some of the other side effects can be even more harmful, like the possibility of a heart attack or even a stroke, with hallucinations, tremors, breathing problems and convulsions all recorded as side effects for users of these drugs.
The side effects vary depending on the lifestyle and health of the person and can be minimized as long as one consults the doctor first before buying them; it should be noted that if one stops using the drugs, the side effects will not necessarily cease. Problems like depression, nausea, bad mood swings, nightmares, insomnia for example have all been reported when a person has stopped taking the weight control pills.
Whilst the effectiveness of these weight loss drugs is not in question, they are more effective if they are used alongside a controlled diet and exercise regime. The type of balanced food groups would be oats, cereals, rice, potatoes with fruit and vegetables as the best source of minerals, fiber and vitamins.
Exercise can be done in whatever form suits the individual best but it should incorporate fat-burning exercises that will burn up any excess calories. Of course a good exercise regime will combine exercises that increase the heart rate and exercises that use weights to tone the muscles. A regime of this kind would increase an individual’s metabolic rate.
Most importantly along with plenty of exercise, a good diet will negate the need in the long term for taking prescription weight loss drugs.
